How does Moxie Robot Work?
Moxie has a complete ecosystem designed to foster social, emotional, and cognitive learning. People are introduced to the Robot Mentoring Program at Moxie and the Global Robotics Laboratory (G.R.L.). In this program, you become Moxie’s personal mentor to help Moxie learn how to be a good friend to people. Each week has a different theme of missions that help Moxie explore human experiences, ideas, and processes.
Together, they earn achievements and awards as they progress.
What type of content is available on Moxie?
Moxie offers play-based learning aligned with weekly themes and missions, with content designed to foster social, emotional, and cognitive learning. Each week, with a variety of themes such as kindness, friendship, empathy, and respect, gives people the mission to help Moxie explore her human experiences, ideas, and life skills. Mission stimulates discussion and curiosity, encouraging people to discover the world and the people around them. Other play-based learning activities include:
Reading: People can build confidence in words by having Moxie read aloud. Moxie also enhances the experience by playing themed music and sound effects. For some of the most popular books, Moxie also asks questions to test reading comprehension and social-emotional concepts.
Storytime: Moxie also tells compelling stories about otherG.R.L. characters. Follow-up sessions will focus on developing strategies for navigating social and emotional situations to achieve positive outcomes.
Mindfulness Practices: Moxie encourages mindfulness and develops emotion regulation skills through practices such as breathing exercises and meditative journeys.
Creative play: Unstructured play, such as creative painting and imaginative building, helps foster creative thinking.
Conversation: People can converse with Moxie without fear of judgment. Your role as Moxie’s mentor will help Moxie build confidence and strengthen the social and emotional skills she’s learning.
What type of robot is Moxie?
Moxie is developed by embodied, a company co-founded by Paolo Pirjanian, former CTO of iRobot, in 15-25 minute sessions, people can chat with her Moxie, play games, or read a book. Unlike most bots, this one isn’t just an appliance. Learn to recognize peoples’s faces and special learning needs.
Moxie’s influence is clear from the start. Its round head, fin-like arms, and total frame resemble Eve, Wall-E’s futuristic robot love. Its «face» is a bulbous screen, brought to life with expressive facial animation. It’s a bit of a cheat, but it reminds me of Sonny from the (surprisingly funny) I, Robot movie. Seeing Moxie in action reminded me of Anki’s awesome Vector and Cozmo robots, but they were not palm-sized. And yes, he bears a disturbing resemblance to Black Mirror’s Home his robot Ashley too
